Sponsorship

University can put a strain on your finances. To help you, every year we sponsor students we believe have the potential to become successful construction leaders. We also pay tuition fees and the cost of books for all our day release students. We offer a number of scholarships for full time students each year including participating in the Construction skills Inspire Scheme.

Work placements

Work placements are an invaluable way of gaining experience of the construction industry. If you are a sponsored student you’ll be required to work with us for 8 to 10 weeks over the summer. This typically involves time in the office combined with practical site experience. We also offer year-long placements for sandwich course students.

Graduate careers (job profiles)

Construction is a demanding yet rewarding industry. There are many different roles to suit your individual talents and personality. We offer skills-based training and will sponsor if you decide to continue your education on a day release basis. Career options include:

  • Construction Management

    Construction Managers must be good problem-solvers and forward planners. They have great people skills and are good at presenting and discussing ideas in meetings. They have an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of the construction business, are well organised and have a good head for figures.
  • Civil Engineering

    Civil Engineers shape the infrastructure of our society by building roads, harbours, railways, airports, hospitals and schools. They are the inventive people who design, build and maintain the environment in which we live.
  • Quantity Surveying

    Quantity Surveyors are highly numerate and enjoy dealing with money. They also know a great deal about building legislation, construction materials, design and construction and are highly organised and great negotiators.
  • Design Management

    Design Managers advise on the practicalities and programme implications of different building methods, and give value engineering experience of building products and materials. They consider issues connected to planning requirements, environmental matters, waste management and site set-up.

Structured training

Our construction based training schemes are accredited and approved by the: Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

Your training objectives are reviewed quarterly with your Mentor and a Director to ensure you are receiving the right training and experience.

Trainee of the Year

The Annual Trainee of the Year Award is presented to the trainee who has shown the best progress throughout the year. The winning trainee receives a trophy and a cash prize from the Group Chief Executive.
